GLASS OF MURANO
Since 1989 Alvise Giustinian, Murano glass store in Florence, is the reference point in Tuscany for Venetian craft made in Italy. The store’s name is inspired to the homonymous ventian doge’s name, and also to the palace, which hosts the glass museum in Venice.
The beauty of Murano glass is famous all over the world thanks to the wise tradition of glass artisans generations: the hand-crafted glass, blown and molded by the heat of the furnaces, thus becomes sculptures, vases, chandeliers, Murano glass jewels, symbol par excellence of Venetian artistic craftsmanship.
Water and fire: the water is that of the Venice lagoon, which surrounds the island of Murano; the fire is that of the glassmakers’ foundries, who in the Middle Ages moved to this island of the lagoon (to prevent fires on the mainland) and, between 1400 and 1800, perfected the art of Murano glass.
